Private electronic prescriptions in Spain
When a prescription is clinically appropriate, I can issue a private electronic prescription through REMPE. You receive it electronically and can present it at participating pharmacies in Spain. A prescription is never guaranteed and depends on the medical assessment.
Controlled and high-risk medicines I do not prescribe
I do not prescribe benzodiazepines, sleeping tablets such as zolpidem, opioids or other controlled/high-risk medicines through this service. To make this clear for international patients, common examples and brand names include:
- Benzodiazepines / anxiolytics
- diazepam (Valium, Anxicalm), lorazepam (Ativan, Orfidal), alprazolam (Xanax, Trankimazin), bromazepam (Lexotan/Lexatin), lormetazepam (Noctamid) and similar medicines.
- Sleeping tablets / related sedatives
- zolpidem (Stilnox, Ambien) and similar medicines.
- Opioids / strong painkillers
- morphine (Oramorph, Sevredol), oxycodone, fentanyl, tapentadol, tramadol and similar medicines.
If you need one of those medicines
Please contact your usual doctor or an appropriate in-person medical service. Requesting a consultation here will not result in a prescription for any of the medicines listed above.
When you need this service
This is for people who need a non-controlled medication and either ran out, forgot it at home, or need an ongoing treatment renewed. Common examples include antihypertensives, statins, prostate medication and common antidepressants. Weight-loss injectables (e.g. GLP-1) can be continued when supported by a current prescription. New treatments are not started without a relevant medical history.
How it works
From request to pharmacy in three simple steps:
- Tell me what medication you need and the relevant medical history in the 1-minute consultation request form.
- I contact you on WhatsApp to arrange a short medical consultation.
- After we speak, pay €55; if a prescription is clinically appropriate, your REMPE prescription PDF is emailed to you, ready to collect at any pharmacy in Spain.
What you get — and the limits
A private electronic prescription valid across all of Spain, issued only where it is clinically appropriate. Submitting the form or paying for the consultation does not guarantee a prescription: if it is not clinically justified, the doctor will explain why.
